Dick Van Dyke, 97, has been told to stop driving and hire a driver instead after his latest car crash.
The legendary actor, entertainer, and comedian was involved in a car crash in Malibu, California, after losing control of his Lexus and plowing into a gate while driving in the rain on Wednesday morning.
According to the reports, the Mary Poppins star was rushed to the hospital after suffering a possible concussion and a bloody nose and mouth.
As sources told TMZ, Van Dyke has since been ordered to retake a driving test due to his age even though drugs and alcohol didn’t play a role in the crash.
Meanwhile, fans of the beloved actor and dancer called on the 97-year-old to give up on driving before something more serious happens to him or someone else.
“Dick Van Dyke is a treasure but come on, man you shouldn’t be driving at 97 years old. No one is going to love you any less if you get an Uber,” someone suggested.
“I love Dick Van Dyke. Have since I first saw him in ‘Mary Poppins’ as a child, but he should not be driving at 97. I hope he’s ok,” another wrote.
A third said: “Driving at 97 is ill-advised. Reaction time and general motor skills make any person a liability on the road.”
The incident comes ten years after the entertainer was rescued from his Jaguar after the car caught fire on the freeway in Calabasas, California.
Though Van Dyke was not injured and didn’t require medical attention at the time, he appeared disoriented when a man named Jason Pennington pulled over to help him get out of his burning vehicle.
