The 97-year-old actor, entertainer, and comedian lost control of his car before smashing into a gate while driving through Malibu, California, in rainy conditions.

As the authorities confirmed, drugs and alcohol didn’t play a role in the incident.

Now, the Mary Poppins star spoke out and told DailyMail.com that he chipped his lip and suffered two stitches as a result of the crash.

“I’m fine, just sore all over. The airbag did not deploy, so I just did a face plant right into the steering wheel and it just made me a little dumber,” Van Dyke told the camera crew that asked him about his injuries.

The actor also took the time to thank his wife, Arlene Silver, as he admitted he would “probably be dead” if she wasn’t taking care of him so well.

“I’m 97, all my friends are dead,” he quipped.

While no one was seriously injured in the crash, Van Dyke has since been ordered to retake a driving test due to his age.

Meanwhile, his fans called on the actor to stop driving and get someone else to take him where he needs to go instead.

“I love Dick Van Dyke. Have since I first saw him in ‘Mary Poppins’ as a child, but he should not be driving at 97. I hope he’s ok,” one worried supporter suggested.

“Driving at 97 is ill-advised. Reaction time and general motor skills make any person a liability on the road,” another said.

A third wrote: “Dick Van Dyke is a treasure but come on, man you shouldn’t be driving at 97 years old. No one is going to love you any less if you get an Uber.”
