Johnny Depp’s legal team wrapped up their final arguments but focused in part on his ex-wife Amber Heard’s counterclaim.

His attorney, Camille Vasquez, told jurors that in suing the Pirates of the Caribbean star for defamation, the actress has “to prove that her abuse claims are not a hoax.”

The Aquaman star’s counterclaims focus on statements made by Depp’s attorney Adam Waldman, who told Daily Mail that Heard’s claims were not true.

Vasquez also said that there’s “clear evidence that Waldman believed that Heard committed a hoax.”

She also undermined Heard’s claim that Waldman’s remarks hurt her reputation, arguing that the statements had nothing to do with her negative press coverage.

Vasquez also challenged the actress’s allegations for damages, citing the testimony of Warner Bros. executive Walter Hamada, who said that Heard’s paycheck was not reduced for the second movie of Aquaman even though her appearance was reduced.

Vasquez told the jurors: “What you have in the end is Miss Heard’s word – do you trust it?”

She also argued that in the actress’s Washington Post op-ed in 2018, Heard was alleging s*xual and physical abuse by Depp, not mere emotional abuse.

“Either she is telling the truth, including in her most extreme allegations, or she is lying,” she said.

Addressing Depp’s messages about Heard, Vasquez said that the texts reflected the actor’s “unique style of writing.”

“Using bad language does not make you an abuser,” Vasquez said.

Attorney Benjamin Chew also told jurors: “Before Amber Heard, no women ever claimed Mr. Depp raised a hand to her in his 58 years,” nothing that no woman since the actress has made claims.

“This is MeToo without any MeToo,” he continued, adding that Depp gave support to the MeToo movement.

“Mr. Depp was canceled because Miss Heard falsely accused him of domestic violence,” Chew added.

He said that the actor “is no saint. He owns his flaws he admits to them, but he is not a violent abuser.”
