Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s marriage counselor has revealed that the actress started physical fights but admitted that the two engaged in ‘mutual abuse’.
Dr. Lauren Anderson, who worked with the former couple for 21 sessions starting in October 2015, gave video testimony during Depp’s defamation trial.
“I know she led (the fights) on more than one occasion and started it to keep him with her because abandonment and having him leave was her worst nightmare,” Dr. Anderson said.
“Miss Heard reported that it was a point of pride to her, if she felt disrespected to initiate a fight. Her father had beaten her, she was not going to end.
“If he was going to leave she would strike him to keep him there. She would rather be in a fight than have him leave.”
When asked if there was violence from Depp towards Heard, she answered yes.
“He had been well controlled for almost 20, 30 years and both (Depp and Heard) were victims of abuse in their homes. I thought he’d been well controlled for decades and with Miss Heard he was triggered and they engaged in what I saw as mutual abuse.”
Dr. Anderson gave the couple fake names ‘Joey Davis’ and ‘Ann Henry’ to protect their identities. During their first meeting, she sat with the former couple for more than three hours.
Their sessions continued until March 2016 when a friend of Heard and Depp asked Dr. Anderson to make a house call but she refused.
“I thought he (Depp) was having difficulty in the sessions and I think it was something about the process between the two of them,” she said.
When asked what difficulty, she answered: “Having a voice. Miss Heard had a jackhammer style of talking. She was very amped up. He had trouble talking at a similar pace. He was cut off a lot.
“I’m guessing this is what it was. This is how he didn’t have a voice. He couldn’t talk with her rapid-fire way of conversation so he was really overwhelmed.”
Dr. Anderson also recalled seeing photos of Heard with bruising around her eyes and a bruised face but she never witnessed the abuse herself.
Her notes also show that Heard claimed Depp told her: “No one likes you, you’re getting fame from me. I’m falling out of love with you, who*e.”
The marriage counselor also described the former couple arguing as going ‘back and forth firing at each other. They don’t communicate, they have terrible skills.”
