Heavy rainfall has caused a massive landslide on the famous Italian island of Ischia today.
According to reports from local media outlets, so many buildings started to get collapsed and the incident has so far left around 12 people missing.
Relief and rescue efforts are currently underway as authorities try to search for more survivors in this horrifying natural catastrophe.
Meanwhile, Italy’s Interior Minister mentioned how no deaths were yet confirmed and they appeared to be contradicting the news mentioned by local media outlets.
As of now, the Italian Prime Minister says that eight people were killed in total due to torrential rains striking the port of Casamiciola Terme.
Here is where one of the six tiny towns on this particular island was pictured during the early hours of Saturday. It triggered a major flooding incident which crushed the cars and turned the streets on the island into giant rivers.
For now, there are zero confirmed deaths but since the people missing are yet to be found, they’ve been presumed dead, sources revealed.
Tall buildings were seen coming crashing down and people started to get buried under the rubble debris was seen being carried by the huge floods right after the shockingly intense downpours during the morning hours.
On the other hand, dramatic footage showed one resident being covered in piles of mud as they tried to climb out of this huge swamp and it ended up creating a mega landslide under the collapsed rubble.
Emergency services were witnessed trying to make some desperate attempts to retrieve him.
Most residents did manage to be evacuated from their homes as mudslides collapsed the homes and even cut out all power supply and contact with the outside world which left a very tragic condition.
