Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Paul Duncan passed away at the age of 35 after he went into cardiac arrest on July 15.
According to reports, he fell unconscious while on a run in his Georgia neighborhood and was pronounced brain dead the following day.
His grieving wife took to Instagram and wrote: “Yesterday, Friday July 15th, Paul went into cardiac arrest while on a run in our neighborhood. Today he was pronounced brain dead.”
“We will have a medical examination to understand cause of death,” Ellen continued. “His body will be donated to people in need of organs and to medical research.
The heartbroken wife said that when she told their children about the tragic news, their daughter Dillon asked to listen to the song “Dad just added to the morning playlist.”
“I didn’t know what she meant so I looked on our Amazon music app and she pointed to “I can only imagine” by MercyMe,” Ellen wrote.
“Paul definitely danced meeting Jesus,” she continued. “Thank you for the ongoing love and support.”
According to Duncan’s obituary in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, dancing was a huge part of his life with his children.
“Dillon and Sloane loved Paul’s impromptu dance parties in the kitchen and his adventures with them in the water, whether it was at the lake with family or at the pool with friends,” it read.
Duncan, who played briefly for the NFL’s Denver Broncos, was the best offensive lineman in Georgia as a student at East Paulding High School.
Before signing with the Broncos, he made 18 starts at Notre Dame. He also volunteered with AmeriCorps to construct houses for people in need in Indiana.
