Denise Richards was left terrified after a shooting incident in Los Angeles while she was traveling with her husband Aaron Phypers.
The 51-year-old actress and her husband, 50, are both unarmed after getting shot at in their vehicle on Monday, November 14.
Phypers was reportedly driving their Ford F-150 Shelby truck and Richards was in the passenger’s seat when another driver opened fire on them.
According to reports, they were on their way to Popsicle Studio LA but Phypers couldn’t locate it which seemed to irritate a motorist behind them.
An insider told PEOPLE that Phypers saw a ‘gold and maroon van’ behind them and that the driver was ‘obviously pissed.’
“(Phypers) could tell – he kept making rights because they were clearly being followed.”
Even though Phypers let the van pass, the driver pulled up to the left of their truck and accused them of cutting them off.
Phypers then rolled his window down and apologized before driving away from the driver, who continued to shout at them.
The couple didn’t know that their car had been shot until they finally arrived at Popsicle Studio LA.
The source explained to PEOPLE: “The guy had taken off by then, but when they realized the car was shot, they were really freaked out, and the production secured the scene.”
It was a member of the movie’s production crew who noticed the bullet hole on the back end on the driver’s side and called 911.
“The production company made her feel safe but they didn’t file a police report. They think now that people were after the car itself because it’s worth a lot of money,” the source added.
Richards and Phypers – who was previously married to ‘Desperate Housewives’ star Nicollette Sheridan – started dating in December 2017 and tied the knot in Malibu in 2018.
The actress was previously married to actor Charlie Sheen from 2002 to 2006, with whom she shares daughters Lola, 17, and Sami. 18. She adopted another daughter, Eloise, 11, in 2020.
