A delivery driver tragically died two weeks after attempting to stop a thief who stole his delivery van.
54-year-old Mark Lang from Cardiff, Wales, was left in critical condition after getting dragged underneath his van for 800 yards.
According to the reports, the brave deliveryman attempted to stop 31-year-old Christopher Elgifari from fleeing in his van when the latter ran over him and trapped him underneath the vehicle.
Following the incident, Lang fought for his life for two weeks before succumbing to his injuries.
“It’s difficult to put into words quite how any of us are feeling. I don’t think we can ever get over something so brutal and ultimately pointless,” the partner of the late deliveryman wrote in a tribute to the “good man with a lot of love to give.”
“Our thanks go out to all the emergency services who did their best to bring him back to us, the people on the scene who rallied around him and called for help, and all the staff at the Heath who made sure his final days were comfortable and who worked tirelessly to help him and the family.”
The loved one’s tribute continued: “Throughout all of this it has been comforting to see so much love and support from so many people who knew Mark. Friends, colleagues, old teammates as well as customers and their dogs.
“We’ve been inundated with nice words and if we noticed it we spoke to him about it. Assume he was aware of your kind words and very happy to hear them. Mark was a good man, with a lot of love to give.”
Following the man’s hospitalization, Elgifari was charged with attempted murder. The charge is now under review and the suspect is facing a murder charge.
In his first court appearance, the suspect confirmed his name, date of birth, and address. As his attorney revealed, the 31-year-old plans on entering a not guilty plea.
Our thoughts remain with Mark’s loved ones during this challenging time.
