The three-year-old son of Nigerian superstar Davido has passed away at his home in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the reports, Ifeanyi, 3, was found unresponsive after presumably drowning in the swimming pool at his family’s residence in Banana Island.
It is believed that Davido and his wife, chef Chioma Rowland, were not at home at the time of the Monday incident.
Since the young boy’s tragic death, the staff that were present at the home at the time of the incident were brought in by the police for questioning.
No arrests have yet been made, and it will remain so should the police investigation conclude that foul play was not involved in the child’s death.
Davido, a world-renowned singer-songwriter who helped globalize African music by merging traditional elements with mainstream pop in his hits, is yet to release an official statement.
“It is true, the child is dead. Domestic staff at Davido’s home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet,” Benjamin Hundeyin of Lagos State Police Command told the Nigerian Daily Post.
“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, if anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest.”
Countless celebrities and friends of Davido and Chioma have since spoken out and paid a tribute to the boy while sharing sympathies with his parents.
“I said I won’t believe anything on social media until I personally confirm myself. I prayed for it to be a lie. I am upset, pained and confused. Nobody deserves to feel this pain,” actor Williams Uchemba said.
“I’m really lost for words. This is really painful. Take heart, David,” singer Paul Play Dairo added.
Actress Iyabo Ojo wrote: “I don’t even know how to react to this rude shock. I was hoping it wasn’t true.”
An investigation into the child’s death remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with Davido and Chioma during this tragic time.
