A grieving mother said that her mother should go to prison after her two young children tragically died only months apart.
Kaila Nix was left heartbroken when her son Ezra Schock, 16 months old, died after drowning in a pond at the house of his grandmother Tracey Nix, 65.
Only months later, Kaila’s 7-month-old daughter Uriel Schock died in the backseat of Tracey’s vehicle after the grandmother forgot that she was still in the vehicle after going to lunch with her friends.
Even though the parents did not want to fully trust the grandmother after Ezra’s death, they did not want to cut her off completely.
Speaking to CNN, Kaila said: “We were anxious, but I loved my mother and I am a daughter that wanted her mom in her life in some capacity, and in that moment, I thought that I could believe in second chances.
“When I was told that Ezra’s death was an accident, some sliver child part of me, thought, okay good, I get to keep this mom. This grandmother. This person.”
It was only after Uriel’s passing that Kaila was told there were attempts to file charges of child neglect against the grandmother.
In an interview with WSVN, Kaila said she wishes to see her mother put in jail.
“If I’m objective – she needs to go to prison. As her daughter, it kills me to say it. As their mother, I demand it,” she expressed.
Drew Shock, the father of the children, also said: “I want justice for my son. I want justice because he didn’t get that. And now I got to sit here and expose this.
“That way, I don’t let what happened to my son happen with my daughter. And just get off scot-free because I couldn’t live with that as a parent.”
