The heartbroken daughter of Paul-Henri Nargeolet, one of the five people on board the Titan submersible, has spoken out before news broke that the rear cover and landing frame of the sub were found.
Sidonie Nargeolet told Reuters that she was living with ‘a lot of stress, very mixed emotions’ about his oceanographer father’s fate.
She also shared a family photo with her father and wrote: “Dad is coming home.”
According to reports, the debris discovered suggests that Titan suffered a ‘catastrophic implosion’ only hours after it descended into the waters on Sunday, taking the lives of all five people on board.
Speaking to Reuters before news broke that the submersible imploded, Sidonie, 39, said: “I really hope they will find them and safe. I think we have to trust what they are doing and be confident.”
She also said that her father’s vast experience with submarines made him ‘know how to react to problems.’
“He is very passionate about the Titanic since they found it 30 years ago and I know now he is at the place he would like to be,” Sidonie said.
Nargeolet spent over two decades in the French Navy before leading expeditions to the Titanic wreck. His colleagues described him as a leading expert on the Titanic as he has more than 35 dives.
Speaking about the moment she was told that the vessel was missing, Sidonie said: “I cried a lot.”
“He sent me a message a week before (getting in the submersible) telling me the weather was bad, so they hadn’t been able to go down, but that there was a great atmosphere,” she expressed.
But as major debris were discovered, people started to lose hope that the Titan five would return.
“If they are not found, it will be very sad for us because we will not see him again. What he liked the most was to be in a submarine, (near) the Titanic,” Sidonie said, adding she was comforted by the fact that her father “is at a place where he is very happy.”
