It was one father’s nightmare come true recently after his daughter passed away after being struck with a bullet to her head.
According to local media reports, young Arlene Alvarez happened to be sitting down in the back of her dad’s truck when she was struck by a bullet that was initially aimed at someone else.
The 9-year-old had headphones on during that time and for that reason, couldn’t hear her father’s command to duck down.
All of a sudden, the bullet struck her head, injuring her. And that’s when her dad rushed her to a nearby local hospital. But the amount of blood loss was a clear sign of danger.
Local media outlets claim that the young girl passed away on Tuesday, while the incident took place on Monday in Houston, Texas.
The victim tried to battle for her life in the hospital’s ICU but just couldn’t come out alive.
Police claim that a 41-year-old man was held at gunpoint while using the ATM to get some cash. He was identified as Tony Earls.
Tony tried to aim for the robber but instead, his poor aim caused the bullet to travel towards the young girl sitting inside the truck.
While the robber remained uninjured and managed to flee, the bullet went straight to the young child’s head and killed her in the end.
As investigations into the tragedy continue, police claim that it is still unclear who the robber was.
The grieving father released a statement where he tried to recall the horrifying tragedy that took away his precious angel’s life: “When we were getting shot at the first time, I told them to get down. She was the only one who didn’t get down. She just didn’t hear me, she had headphones on”- the grieving dad revealed.
On Tuesday, Tony Earls was charged for aggravated assault and serious bodily injury that took place as a result of his shooting.
