Three children were discovered in a wrecked car alongside their dead parents after a horror crash in Western Australia.
25-year-old Cindy Braddock and 28-year-old Jake Day were young parents who were driving through Wheatbelt from Northam to Kondinin when they crashed with their three kids in the back on Christmas Day.
Following the early morning accident, Cindy and Jake were found unresponsive by a concerned relative who called the police after the family failed to reach Day’s mother’s home to spend Christmas together.
According to the reports, the young family’s vehicle was found lying upside-down at the side of the road just some six miles from their destination.
Early investigation revealed that the crash likely killed the parents immediately, leaving their three children under the age of five trapped in the car.
While two of the older kids managed to pull themselves to safety, the two-month-old baby was still inside the wreckage at the time of their rescue.
The three siblings were airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital where the youngest remains in critical condition following a major head injury.
“My understanding was they left Northam early so Jack could be with his mum on Christmas,” Michael Read, Day’s cousin, told Seven News as he revealed the family was left “broken.”
“[We’re] pretty broken, not only have I lost my cousin, but one of my close friends, basically, we’re just taking one day at a time.”
He added: “They are going to be pretty missed by everybody – not just family and friends but the community as well.”
