A couple has been sentenced to death after throwing two toddlers to their death.
27-year-old Zhang Bo was a father of two young children, 1-year-old Zhang Yangrui and 2-year-old Zhang Ruixue, whom he shared with his ex-wife.
After falling head over heels with Ye Chengchen, the young father conspired to murder his two toddlers in an attempt to start a family with his new girlfriend without having to care for the children from his previous relationship.
According to the reports, Chengchen refused to marry Bo and fully accept him because of the two children he had. She would also frequently cut her wrists in protest and demand he starts a new family with her.
Though Bo could let his children live with their biological mother, Chen Meilin, whom he shared custody with, he one day requested to look after both of them only to throw them from his 15th-floor balcony to their death.
“At that time, Zhang was on a video phone call with Ye. She slit her wrists and then Zhang got scared. The phone was dropped, he picked up the two children, and threw them from the balcony,” the toddlers’ heartbroken mother said.
After throwing the kids to their death, Bo tried to conceal the double murder by claiming Ruixue and Yangrui fell by accident while he was sleeping. He was also pictured pretending to be crying and banging his head against a wall in an attempt to make his story look more convincing.
Following a thorough investigation, however, it was revealed that Bo and Chengchen plotted the murder of the two toddlers because they wanted to start their own family without any existing attachments. The father has since also pleaded guilty to these allegations.
“The moment I heard my kids were actually thrown out of the 15th-floor by their father and the mistress, I couldn’t find any words to describe my feelings,” the children’s biological mother added.
“I couldn’t imagine what my kids had experienced from the 15th floor to the ground. Were they desperate? Were they afraid?”
Following the double-murder, the 27-year-old father was sentenced to death. His girlfriend, Chengchen, was also sentenced to die for coercing and manipulating Bo into killing his children.
