Tragic reports coming in from California have confirmed the death of a 30-year-old cop who was recently shot at a traffic stop.
According to local media reports, the police officer who hails from California was shot and then killed on Friday after an unidentified suspected shooter aimed his weapon and fired rounds directly at him at a traffic stop.
This tragic incident becomes the department’s first line-of-duty death in over 80 years.
The victim of the shooting was identified as officer Jorge David Alvardo who initiated the traffic stop near the East Market and Griff Street at about 10:40 on Friday.
Officer Jorge was reported to be a veteran police officer of five years who hailed from Salina’s police force, which is a city that’s present about 60 miles south of San Jose, near Monterey County.
Meanwhile, other reports confirmed how the suspected shooter is yet to be named or identified by the cops. But he is currently in police custody, reports explained.
As investigations into the case continue, authorities are also not revealing the immediate details on how the traffic stop turned into the tragedy and ended as a shooting. However, they did speak about how commendable the officer’s actions during this deadly incident turned out to be, ultimately costing him his life.
The police chief stated that the officer bravely stayed in the fight all the way and till the end. “Ultimately, he was forced to pay the price of it and it cost him his life in the end”- he concluded.
“Thanks to his diligence and actions, we were able to apprehend that suspect and we have him in our custody”- he added.
The entire community and the police department are truly devastated after the incident, confirmed reports.
