A new and abrupt finding in the Cleo Smith case has taken place, where the man accused of committing the horrifying crime has admitted to his wrongdoing.
Terence Darrell Kelly has reportedly pleaded guilty to kidnapping the innocent 4-year-old girl named Cleo Smith from a campsite where she was sleeping with her parents. This has brought the child-snatching case against the accused to a swift and surprising end.
The 36-year-old entered into the guilty plea of the single charge which revolved around snatching Cleo away from her loved ones’ tent in the middle of the night.
The incident reportedly took place last year in October at a remote location in Western Australia called Carnarvon. The young child and her parents were enjoying a family trip in the outdoors when the horrifying news broke out, leading to a high-profile investigation and massive search.
But police officials managed to recover the victim safe and sound from the accused culprit’s home, who at first denied any wrongdoing.
In an effort to prevent his participation in the criminal trial which was scheduled to begin soon, he opted to admit to the crime, shocking authorities who didn’t expect this sudden decision of his.
Kelly faced the judge via a video link that was taken while he was in police custody on Monday. He was also facing another additional charge after reports were released about how he also assaulted a police officer, one day after he was arrested.
Now, after this new finding, the case has been adjourned to the District Court in Perth on March 20 and that is where he will eventually undergo his sentencing but will avoid undergoing any criminal trial.
Authorities have stated that Kelly is yet to enter into any plea regarding his other charges.
