A how-to picture guide poster was also released by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to point out which parts of different military vehicles should be targeted in such attacks.

The bombs are made with grated plastic and filled with petrol and are like hurling napalm as they stick and burn, destroying tires, while occupants can choke.  The fumes are also sucked into the air intake causing the vehicles to stall and disable.

Olga and a second woman crush the Styrofoam, while a man and woman to their side carefully poured fuel and oil into a funnel, oozing the mix into the bottles. Next to them, a man dipped the wicks in shredded pieces of tablecloths and curtains before wrapping the heads with bits of twine.

The burst of lethal activity on what normally would have been a lazy Saturday was part of a citywide mobilization in this tense capital, turning many of its nearly 3 million residents into a semi-organized resistance against Russian invaders.

The furious citizens sang out derogatory chants and profanity about Russian President Vladimir Putin in unison. Omelanenko, 41, barely took her eyes off her smartphone screen as she scrolled through the call history list.

She said: “In the last two days we’ve got more than 400 people, I have a phone call every minute from people who donate or who want to join. Many people give money to help us out.”

Zelensky, meanwhile, has said this evening he has signed a request to join the European Union, urging members to fast track the country on board.
