A top Ukrainian pediatric surgeon specializing in treating children with cancer was killed in Russia’s missile strikes on October 10.
In a series of revenge attacks following the partial destruction of the Crimea Bridge and the crippling of the Russian supply line into Ukraine, Putin unleashed at least 83 missiles on several Ukrainian cities including the capital of Kyiv.
While the Russian president insisted only military and communications targets were subjected to the ruthless bombings, horrifying footage and photos prove that multiple missiles hit populated areas.
According to Ukrainian officials, at least 19 people were killed in the Monday attacks, whereas dozens more were injured.
Among the deceased civilians was Dr Oksana Leontyeva, one of Ukraine’s top pediatric surgeons who worked at Okhmatdyt, a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
Dr. Leontyeva was described as a dedicated and kind doctor who was killed by the blast as she “hurried to see her patients” after dropping off her son, Gregory, at a nursery.
Since Gregory lost his dad just over a year ago, it means he was left orphaned after his mother’s sudden and unexpected passing.
“With pain in our hearts, we inform you that as a result of rocket shelling in Kyiv killed doctor Ohmatditu Oksana Leontyeva,” the hospital confirmed while branding the doctor as “a true professional and a source of support for her patients and colleagues.”
“She worked in a bone marrow transplant unit for 11 years. Oksana saved children with blood cancer.
“Oksana’s life was taken by a Russian rocket, her car burned to the ground in the middle of Kiev.”
The hospital officials added:
“Many innocent people including children were killed and injured because of this horrible terrorist attack.”
Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine during these challenging times.
