Two young children were left orphaned after their parents died just weeks of each other.
30-year-old mother-of-two Amie Walton was fighting terminal cancer in the hospital when her partner, 42-year-old Chris Mills, died suddenly next to her bed.
As an investigation into his passing confirmed, Mills died of a ruptured stomach ulcer while spending the night by his ill partner’s side.
Just four weeks after the father’s premature death, Walton succumbed to her battle with stage 4 bowel and liver cancer.
The couple leaves behind two young children, 6-year-old Mia and 8-year-old Harry, who were left orphaned after their mother’s death.
Friends and relatives of the family have since launched a fundraiser to help the grieving kids out with upcoming challenges.
“Amie was diagnosed with terminal cancer and fought bravely to the very end. Her devoted and loving partner Chris spent much time with Amie comforting her in every way possible. One morning after falling asleep together, Amie awoke from her sleep to discover Chris had quietly passed away during the night,” the fundraising page reads.
“The family later discovered that Chris lost his life to a burst stomach ulcer. Amie sadly passed away exactly 4 weeks later. Amie and Chris have left behind 2 young children Harry aged 8 and Mia aged 6. Both children are being lovingly cared for by both sets of grandparents Tracey and Ade and Sandra and David.”
As Bal Singh, the local storeowner who launched the fundraiser for the family, said, the incident is “beyond devastating” which is why the community has since come together to “do the best we can for Harry and Mia.”
Speaking out was also the children’s godmother and Amie’s best friend, Jess Davies, who previously launched a fundraiser to secure the funds the young mother needed to undergo radiotherapy that is not covered by the NHS health insurance.
“Harry and Mia are little dreams, they are amazing,” she told The Mirror.
“We were supposed to be getting together for Halloween but Amie had just been told she was being put on palliative care and didn’t feel like it so I said I’d take the kids trick or treating.”
Meanwhile, Amie’s mother Tracey said the entire family was taken by surprise when Chris suddenly died just weeks before Amie succumbed to her disease.
“Once Chris’s funeral was over Amie went to her dad’s for a break in Devon where she sadly passed herself a few days later. We will continue to live on with them both in our hearts and do the best to bring up their children the best we can,” the grieving mom said.
