A 29-year-old father has been arrested on suspicion of killing his four kids, who were all under the age of 12, and their grandmother.
Gemarcus David from California turned himself in after the fatal shooting on Sunday evening.
The lifeless bodies of the four children and their grandmother were discovered inside the property that David owned with Tyanna Brown.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies rushed to the home in Lancaster at around 10:30 pm after the children’s mother found them bleeding inside their home.
When cops arrived, they found four children and an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
All of the children, who were all under the age of 12, were pronounced dead at the scene, CBS Los Angeles reported.
According to a state database reviewed by The Los Angeles Times, the 29-year-old father is a licensed security guard whose firearm permit was revoked.
He is currently being held on a $2 million bail.
Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Waki Jones – who works at a daycare – said that the oldest children were 12-year-old Amaya and 9-year-old Demarcus.
“Amaya was a sweet girl, and every morning, the mom would tell her, ‘Say good morning to coach,’” Jones shared. “She was always protecting her brother, making sure he was safe at school. It’s just unbelievable. I can’t believe they’re gone.”
Neighbor Angelo Beltran said she heard children a woman screaming late Sunday.
“We saw a woman screaming outside, and we don’t know who she is, but she was yelling,” she told the paper.
Grace Beltran said she heard the woman scream: “My babies are gone.”
The possible motive and circumstances around the tragic deaths are unclear as of Monday, according to KTLA.
The incident is now under investigation.
