A man who was found guilty of plotting and carrying out an arson attack against a high school in Minneapolis has been sentenced to just five years of probation.
The horrifying incident took place during a series of riots carried out by the Black Lives Matter movement in Minneapolis, following George Floyd’s death.
After he pleaded guilty to the crime, many hoped for justice to come their way with his punishment but instead, citizens were left dumbfounded and speechless as they couldn’t understand the punishment he had received.
On Thursday, the St. Paul courtroom announced the verdict for Mohamed Hussein Abdi who pleaded guilty to carrying out a conspiracy related to arson, as mentioned in his court documents for the case.
In addition to the five-year-long probation sentence, he will also reportedly have to pay a fine worth $34,000 to Gordon Parks High School too.
The accused was arrested one month after he carried out the horrifying attack against the high school in June of 2020.
Sources claim he managed to gain entry into the building via a glass door that had been cracked during the violent BLM riots for George Floyd’s death.
Horrifying security footage showed the culprit pouring liquid from a large container onto the cafeteria present on campus along with a trash can, right before he made a quick attempt to flee the burning building.
Around $500 million worth of damage had taken place with more than 1500 businesses being damaged due to the aftermath of the riots that had taken place in the St. Paul district of Minneapolis alone.
As far as the school is concerned, the building was deemed partially burnt due to his actions and that’s why plenty are beyond appalled at the verdict he received.
