A second suspect in the kidnapping and killing of a family-of-four in California has been arrested.
Jesus Salgado was charged with kidnapping and murdering the family of four: Jasdeep Singh, 39. His wife Jasleen Kaur, 27, their 8-month-old daughter Aroohi Dheri, and Singh’s brother, Amandeep Singh.
Salgado’s brother, 41-year-old Alberto Salgado was also arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and getting rid of evidence, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook.
The motive is still unclear but Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said he believes the killings could relate to money.
Authorities revealed that Jesus Salgado was a former employee of the family but had a long-lasting dispute with them.
The victims’ bodies were discovered in a remote area near Dos Palos, California, 30 miles south of Merced.
Police said it was not clear how the 8-month-old baby died and also did not share the condition remains of the parents and uncle.
“Our thoughts are with the family in their time of grief and we ask that everyone respect their privacy,” the sheriff’s office said.
Jesus Salgado was previously convicted of first-degree robbery, attempted false imprisonment and an attempt to dissuade a witness or victim. He was sentenced to 11 years in state prison and was released in 2015.
According to reports, the victims owned Unison Trucking Inc. and Jesus Salgado, their employee, had sent angry emails or text messages to the family after working with them, Warnke told The Associated Press.
The four family members were reported missing on Monday. Surveillance video showed Salgado leading the Singh brothers, who had their hands tied behind their backs, into a pickup truck before returning to the office and led Jasleen Kaur, who was carrying her baby, out and into the truck.
On Tuesday, Salgado was identified as a person of interest after he used one of the victims’ ATM cards in the town of Atwater. He was arrested on four counts of murder and four counts of kidnapping.
