51-year-old award-winning US journalist and filmmaker, Brent Renaud, has been shot dead by Russian troops in Ukraine.
According to local media reports, Renaud was busy filming refugees in the Ukrainian city of Irpin when the tragedy happened on Sunday, where he was gunned down by Putin’s men.
Other reports revealed how his colleague named Juan had also been shot by the Russian troops but he thankfully managed to make out alive with injuries. Juan is now being treated at a local nearby hospital, revealed officials.
The duo happened to be inside a car and had reportedly just made it through a checkpoint when all of a sudden, soldiers from Russia opened fire on them.
While the car’s driver made dire attempts to turn the car around, he failed and as a result, Renaud was shot in his neck and passed away at the scene.
He was reportedly carrying a badge that had ‘New York Times’ listed down as his publication but that dated back to the year 2015.
The newspaper has now responded, claiming that he was not in the country on any assignment that had been allocated by them.
On the other hand, plenty of friends and colleagues of Renaud have come forward to reveal how he had been working on filming a global project related to those refugees and their living conditions. But little did anyone know that it would end up taking his life.
As of now, the White House has not released any public comments on the matter relating to Renaud’s death, which is being hailed as the first American killed in the conflict between both Russia and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the country’s National Security Adviser has released a public statement that condemns the tragedy, where he referred to it as both horrifying and shocking.
