A 12-year-old boy who was loved by his family has passed away after a garage wall collapsed at his home.
Scott-Swaley Daniel Stevens was helping his dad, Scott Stevens, with a DIY project in the garage of their Clacton home in England when the brick wall suddenly collapsed and crushed the child to death.
Though the boy was quickly pulled from the rubble, he was declared dead at the scene after paramedics failed to resuscitate him.
The first responders also rescued a man believed to be the boy’s father from the rubble and treated him for an arm injury.
As of this writing, it remains unclear what exactly caused the garage wall to collapse or what the father and son were doing in the garage at the time of the incident.
“After a tragic accident, our son Scott-Swaley has sadly passed away. As a family, we cannot explain the hurt we feel and we are broken,” the boy’s mother, Charmaine Lee, expressed in a statement shared by Essex Police.
“Our Swaley was a well-loved boy who had friends not only in Clacton, but also in Dartford and Wickford and will be missed by so many.”
She added: “As a family, we would like to ask for privacy at this difficult time whilst we come to terms with our loss.
“We appreciate and would like to say thank you for all of the kind tributes to our boy.”
Confirming the tragic news was also Detective Inspector James Hardingham who revealed that the devastating incident – which is not being treated as suspicious – remains under investigation.
“My thoughts continue to be with Scott-Swaley’s family and friends following this tragic incident. We’re continuing our inquiries to establish the facts leading to the wall collapse,” Hardingham said.
“If anyone has information that can help us, or anyone who was in St John’s Road just before 7 pm last night and saw anything that could help our investigation, should call us.”
Our hearts go out to Scott-Swaley’s family and friends during this tragic time.
