A 16-year-old boy from Texas was accidentally shot and killed during a hunting trip with his mother and older brother.
Dylan Seymour was reportedly hunting wild hogs with his mother Amy Blackwell and 19-year-old brother on her husband’s property when the tragic incident happened.
They were running away as the hogs charged at them, with Seymour telling his family: “Stop, stop, I got shot,” according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
It is not clear whether Dylan accidentally shot himself or if she was accidentally shot by a family member. Police said they are treating the case as an accident.
The teen’s grieving mother told Fisher County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Benavides: “I’m not exactly how he got hit, if we ran in to each other or what. It all just happened so fast. The last hog was still charging but ran by us as we were checking out D-Ray’s injury.”
The Fisher County Sheriff Randy Ford said that Dylan was taken to a Sweetwater hospital where he was pronounced dead, The Hood County News reported.
Ford also said that the investigation into the teen’s death is ongoing, with the full report being issued ‘sometime next week’ once the autopsy results are finalized.
“It’s unclear what exactly happened. This incident was clearly an accident,” the Telegram quoted him saying.
Dylan’s obituary describes him as loving the outdoors, including camping, playing baseball, hunting, and fishing. He also loved hanging out with family and friends.
His funeral will be held inside the Tolar High School gymnasium, where he was a junior.
Dylan’s tragic death is the second time that Tolar High School has been hit by tragedy this year. In April, 15-year-old freshman Evalina Celia Teresa Salazar met an accident that left her brain dead. Her life support was turned off a few days after the incident.
