A toddler was found dead in his apartment after starving to death following the sudden passing of his father.
David Conde Jr. was a cheerful 2-year-old boy with curly locks who was found starved to death inside his Geneva, New York, apartment.
According to the reports, authorities were called to the scene after concerned relatives said the child’s father, 59-year-old David Conde Sr., wasn’t seen or heard from for a week.
It was then discovered that the father and son were both found deceased in the same room. Investigators have ruled out foul play after seeing no evidence of visible physical trauma on either.
Following months after the disturbing find, the causes of death have finally been revealed.
As deputies announced this week, Conde Sr. died of cardiovascular disease. Following his death, his toddler son was unable to secure any nutrition to sustain himself for several days. The child died of starvation before a welfare check was performed at the location.
“It is believed Mr. Conde passed away first and the child was not able to obtain any nourishment after his father passed,” the press release says.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the child’s mother was not involved, whereas Conde Sr. gained full custody of his son not long after his birth.
After the investigation into the double death ruled out foul play and confirmed the duo died of natural causes, the case has been closed.
Conde Jr. is survived by his six brothers, one sister, and his mother, Michelle Travers.
In his obituary, he was dubbed as a “beautiful” child with a “determined smile and sweet disposition.”
