A one-year-old boy who vanished in front of his home in Florida was found dead in a septic tank one day after he was reported missing.
In a social media post, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said that Jose Lara is thought to have fallen into the septic tank in a ‘tragic accident.’
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a missing child alert for the child. But only a day later, the FDLE confirmed that the boy ‘has been found deceased.’
Jose was last seen playing with his sister outside their Florida home.
Sheriff HD ‘Gator’ DeLoach said in a press conference that the mother was inside the home with another child when the incident happened.
According to the Independent, the toy truck Jose had been playing with was found outside.
DeLoach also said that there was no indication that the boy left their property, adding the appears to have fallen into the septic tank after stepping on rotted plywood.
In a post on Facebook, DeLoach thanked staff who “tirelessly and seamlessly” assisted in the search for the one-year-old.
One person commented: “RIP little Angel .. So sad.. Condolences to the families .”
Another wrote: “Oh my goodness…God love his heart. Rest In Peace precious little one.”
A third said: “Heartbreaking! A thorough investigation is definitely warranted. RIP Precious Baby Boy.”
The Putnam County sheriff’s Office said in another post: “Please keep the family of Jose Lara in your prayers as they grieve the loss of their son.
“Sheriff De Loach personally briefed search and rescue teams prior to notifying the public.
“Please keep them in your prayers as this was not the outcome we hoped for. Jose’s body was recovered from a septic tank earlier today.
“While the investigation is ongoing it is believed this was a tragic accident and Jose fell into the tank.”
