A young boy from Michigan managed to save his sister from a kidnapper using nothing but his toy slingshot.
The shocking attempted kidnapping took place just outside Alpena Township in Michigan where an 8-year-old girl was foraging mushrooms with her family including her 13-year-old brother.
While looking for food to take home, the girl was approached by a 17-year-old kidnapper with a “black mohawk” who covered her mouth before attempting to drag her away from her loved ones.
Seeing this happen right before his eyes, the girl’s big brother took out his slingshot and fired several objects at the kidnapper’s head.
According to Lieutenant John Grimshaw of Michigan State Troopers, the boy’s actions caused the kidnapper to “let go” of the child.
“The girl was able to struggle and get away and he shot another one hit the suspect in the chest and then fled the scene,” he added.
While the suspect ran away, he was later caught hiding at a nearby gas station and taken into custody. The 17-year-old, who hasn’t been named, allegedly admitted it was his intent to beat the girl.
“What he [the girl’s brother] did also helped us to identify who the suspect was, because obviously he had injuries from getting hit with a slingshot,” Grimshaw added.
Speaking out about the shocking incident was also the girl’s uncle who said he was proud of her big brother for saving his sister.
“Hey everyone earlier today my niece was almost kidnapped out of her own yard here in Alpena on the south end of town, a young 17-year-old with a black mohawk grab my niece and tried kidnapping her,” Gary Quintel wrote on Facebook.
He continued: “My nephew heard her screaming and saw through his window and shot the guy with a slingshot. The guy let go, cops were called … the guy is now in custody.”
“I’m very proud of my nephew and I know my niece’s traumatized and I’m sending prayers for her [that] had to be extremely scary for her,” Gary concluded.
