A 3-year-old boy from Illinois tragically died after his 34-year-old aunt pushed him into a lake while no one was watching.
Josiah Brown passed away after suffering brain swelling, seizures, and bleeding from the lungs for almost a week in the hospital.
His aunt Victoria Moreno, 34, reportedly pushed him 6.5 feet into Lake Michigan while no one was watching.
According to reports, Josiah was with his aunt at the Navy Pier after she picked him up from his grandmother’s house in Des Plaines.
Surveillance footage shows Moreno, who has a history of anxiety, insomnia and depression, pushing the toddler into the lake while no one was watching as he fought for his life for 30 minutes.
According to police, the aunt just watched the child vomiting twice in the water before he sank. He was later found by divers.
One witness told the Chicago Sun-Times that she found the toddler ‘floating on his back and just looking up at the sky, his head was the only thing that was bobbing above the water.’
Before his death, Josiah suffered injuries including bleeding in his lungs, a swollen brain, and seizures. His heartbroken family setup a GoFundMe page for his medical bills and now for funeral expenses.
When police questioned Moreno, she denied knowing the toddler but later claimed that he fell into the water after ‘acting up.’
Moreno has been charged with aggravated battery of a minor and attempted first-degree murder. Those charges will be upgraded now that the toddler has passed away.
She is now being held in a Cook County jail with no bail and is not permitted to have contact with Josiah’s family or any witnesses to the incident.
