A 6-year-old boy was found dead in his mother’s car only two weeks after she was given full custody of the child.
28-year-old Julissa Thaler was arrested after the lifeless body of Eli Hart was discovered in the trunk of her car. She is now being held at the Hennepin County Jail for probable cause murder, KSTP reported.
She had just won a protracted custody battle for Eli even after the local Child Protective Services agency expressed their concerns about the mother’s criminality and mental health.
Grieving family members said that Eli’s father, Tory Hart, tried to win custody just before Eli’s tragic death.
Josie Josephson, Tory’s fiancée, said to Fox9 that Thaler has suffered with mental issues in the past.
But after almost a year in foster care, the 6-year-old had been placed back with his mother after initially being taken from her as she failed to give him proper care.
In an interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Eli’s foster mother Nikita Kronberg slammed the Dakota County CPS and said that social workers “failed this child big-time.”
According to reports, Hart tried to get custody of his child and mentioned red flags showed by Thaler.
Family members said that Eli’s behavior suddenly changed after Thaler won custody and that the boy had been showing signs of anxiety.
Even though many parties made statements to Child Protective Services about the mother, she was still awarded custody of the boy on May 10, 2022.
Authorities said that Thaler got arrested after officers discovered the body in the trunk of her bloodied vehicle in Minneapolis.
Drono police aid that the mother and a man were arrested on suspicion of murder after Eli’s remains were found.
Officers found further evidence of foul play at a gas station where the vehicle stopped at.
