Two underage boys have been arrested after killing a 5-year-old Michigan boy and his mother in an ‘execution-style’ shooting.
The body of 5-year-old Caleb Harris was discovered alongside his 28-year-old mother, Lashon Marshall, and the woman’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Aaron Benson, by a concerned family member who checked on the family after not hearing from them for a week.
After the shocking discovery, the Detroit Police rushed to the 15300 block of Evergreen Road where the three bodies were recovered.
According to the police, the young boy was murdered in an execution-style shooting, whereas he suffered several gunshot wounds to his face. Details about his parents’ manner of death remain undisclosed.
Following the gruesome discovery, the police launched a manhunt on the suspects. Thanks to tips from the community, the investigators arrested two teen boys, aged 16 and 17, who remain in custody at a youth home while awaiting charges.
“We are confident that we have those responsible in custody,” Police Chief James White said as he revealed the victims and the suspects were known to each other.
While the police believe that the shooting took place before Sunday, the exact date and time of the victims’ death remain unclear.
“They continued to check the house for additional victims, and unfortunately they did find a third victim, a child, in a room deceased,” White said as he recalled the time officers stormed the building and found Caleb’s mother and her boyfriend.
“Words can’t explain what it’s like to see a 5-year-old child laying deceased from gunshot wounds. It’s incredible how very sad that is,” Commander Michael McGinnis added.
