A young boy was mauled to death by a pack of four vicious dogs while his mother was severely injured while trying to protect him.
7-year-old Kellan Islas was walking around his mother’s RV in Fort Hall Reservation, Idaho, when he was set upon by a pack of four dogs outside the Wolfchild residence.
The gruesome attack took place at around 5.30 pm on Saturday, the police confirmed.
According to the reports, the dogs – two mixed breeds and two Rottweilers – mauled little Kellan to death while critically injuring his mother after she attempted to protect her son by lying on top of him.
After the authorities arrived at the scene, the mother and son were rushed to the hospital where Kellan was pronounced dead. His mother sustained injuries to her head on top of nerve damage and a ruptured artery.
“Emily was rushed to emergency surgery and is still in the ICU trying to recover from the damage that the dogs did to her,” Samantha Lenay, a family friend, wrote in her GoFundMe fundraiser for the family.
“I do know that she sustained nerve damage and a ruptured artery in her right arm as well as damage to the back of her head, left arm and her back.”
The post added: “Emily’s daughter, thankfully was not there when the attack took place. I know when Emily sees this she may get mad at me for posting it. But she helped me through one of the hardest times in my life, and if I can do anything at all for her this would be a small start.
“Like I said she is an amazing woman and mother and I know she would never ask for help. So I’m asking for help for her.
“No mother should ever have to go through this. And it absolutely breaks my heart that this tragedy has happened. I know this won’t heal the hurt but at least it can help so she doesn’t have to worry about being able to provide for her daughter while she heals.”
Samantha also said Emily was the kind of mother who would do “everything in her power” to protect her child. “She is an amazing woman and mother and sacrificed herself to try and save her little boy,” she said.
After the dog attack, all four animals were euthanized, whereas the FBI and the Fort Hall police have launched an investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that the dogs’ owners, neighbors Benjamin Dominick Wolfchild and Juliana Wolfchild, were not at home at the time of the attack.
The couple was previously issued 15 citations including exceeding the pet limit and vicious animal attack. It was also revealed that the Wolfchilds violated rabies vaccination rules in the past.
