A boy who went missing during the Chicago mass shooting was kept safe by a stranger who found him covered in blood.
Panic erupted in Highland Park during the Fourth of July parade after a gunman armed with a rifle opened fire and killed at least six people while injuring two dozen more.
After the gunfire started, a young boy reportedly got separated from his grandparents. The child was found bloodied and alone by a local chef who kept him safe as Jackie Kostek of CBS Chicago began looking for the boy’s family.
“Do you know this child? A Highland Park chef says the child is safe but with strangers after the shooting,” the reporter revealed on Twitter as she appealed to the public to help reunite the boy with his guardians.
In the heart-wrenching photos shared by the reporter, the child’s leg and shoe can be seen stained with blood. It is not clear if the boy was wounded during the shooting or if the blood belonged to another victim.
According to the latest reports, the boy has since already been reunited with his grandparents at a local hospital.
Meanwhile, the police apprehended the gunman who reportedly remains in custody.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo III.
It is believed that Crimo found his way onto the roof of a local store via an “unsecured ladder” before opening fire on the crowd. After firing several dozen rounds, the gunman fled the scene.
Also known as ‘Awake The Rapper,’ Crimo is a music artist who back in October released a worrying video showing a man pointing a rifle at a person. Along with the disturbing depiction were lyrics saying a ‘life-changing’ event that he cannot stop is on the horizon.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during these challenging times.
