The police launched a manhunt on two male suspects after they approached a schoolboy and set his shirt on fire.
The horrific attack took place in Blackpool, England, where two men wearing hoodies approached a 12-year-old boy while strolling through Bancroft Park on Tuesday night at around 8 to 9 pm.
Speaking to the child, the two suspects allegedly asked him if he wanted to see a magic trick before pulling out a lighter and setting fire to his shirt.
After seeing the boy struggling, one passer-by approached him and called for help.
The 12-year-old was then taken to the hospital where he was treated for “significant” burns to his torso.
Meanwhile, the police launched a manhunt for the suspects and appealed to the public to come forth with any information that could lead to their arrest.
“This was a horrific assault on a young boy and he has suffered some really significant burn injuries which will need on-going hospital treatment,” Detective Inspector Kirsty Wyatt said.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at around the time of the attack to come forward and speak to us.
“We will have extra patrols in the area over the coming days and I would urge anyone with information or concerns to speak to an officer.”
According to the reports, both suspects were dressed in black and wearing hoodies at the time of the attack. One suspect was also wearing a mask.
