A young boy was left seriously injured after “flying out” of a water slide at a beloved amusement park in Georgia.
The 5-year-old boy in question was reportedly enjoying his time in SOAKya Water Park at Lake Winnepesaukah when he plunged 20 feet to the ground after falling from a water slide.
According to a number of witnesses who saw the child fly out from the slide at great speed, the staff didn’t arrive at the scene of the accident for several minutes after the incident.
“I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. I thought ‘Is he alive?’” one onlooker, Ginger Bence, recalled in an interview with WJCL.
Another amusement park visitor told the media that the boy appeared to have fallen out of a green and yellow water slide.
Bence also revealed that a series of whistles were blown by members of the staff after they were alerted of the fall. As she believes, the blow whistles likely served to alert the rest of the staff of the dire situation.
The shocked witness went on to claim that the boy was in “so much pain” and that she was just hoping he would make it out alive.
After the paramedics arrived at the scene, the boy was conscious and he complained about “pain all over” his body.
While his current condition remains unclear, it is believed that the 5-year-old is in professional care after being rushed to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“We have an inspector on the scene there today, but it is too early in our investigation to release any preliminary findings,” Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Division reassured the public in a statement after the accident.
“We will most likely release a final report in the next few days.”
