A young boy died at a luxury hotel where his family was celebrating a wedding.
The 14-year-old British boy was staying at Liberty Lara beach hotel in Antalya, Turkey, together with his relatives who gathered at the all-inclusive resort to celebrate a wedding.
According to the reports, the boy was swimming in the hotel’s pool at around 1 pm when he ran into unexplained complications and found himself drowning.
As one witness claimed, the boy’s body was eventually pulled out of the water by a barman and the child was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following the 14-year-old’s tragic death, the police launched an investigation into claims that the lifeguard on duty left the pool and went on lunch break at the time of the incident.
“This happened around 1 pm and we heard the lifeguard had gone for lunch. They tried very hard to revive the boy at the side of the pool but it was too late,” one witness claimed, The Sun reported.
Claims of a missing lifeguard, however, were strongly refuted by Liberty Lara with hotel officials telling The Sun they have proof that lifeguards tended to the boy within 30 seconds.
“In accordance with the rules and regulations regarding the lifeguards we have stationed at all of our pools, water slide splash pools, observation tower on the beach and on the pier, when a lifeguard takes a lunch break, another lifeguard will take his or her place,” the spokesperson for the hotel said.point 558 | 1
“There are CCTV cameras located around the pool area which have been viewed by both the Liberty Lara management and the local police. Lifeguards were on the scene within 30 seconds.”
They added: “We have one additional lifeguard over the numbers required to ensure that the pools are not left unattended when a lifeguard takes a lunch break.”
As of this writing, the cause of the boy’s drowning remains unclear and the investigation continues.
