The 14-year-old boy who was feared to be in extreme danger after he vanished wearing a ‘disturbing shirt’ has been found safe, police have confirmed.
Scottie Morris was reported missing on March 16. Eaton residents were urged by authorities to check their surveillance footage for any sight of the teen.
Morris vanished while wearing a white t-shirt with words that described him as a liar.
He was reportedly forced by his parents to wear the t-shirt as a form of punishment. Police said that they are investigating the incident.
Officers also warned internet users of sharing their speculations on social media.
In a statement, the EPD said: “We are very sorry the post seemed as if we were trying to shame him in [any way], as that would NEVER be our intent.
“Placing that photo on social media was in no way an attempt to embarrass or humiliate him … our only concern is that we find Scottie safely and then go from there with our investigation.”
A week after Morris vanished, residents held a candlelight vigil.
At least 100 volunteers from the town of 1,500 residents helped in searching the teen as the EPD said that they are running out of places to look for him.
In an update on Facebook, police have confirmed that Morris was found on March 24.
“Morris was located by an Eaton Officer at Hartford Street & Harris Street,” the post read.
“Scottie was transported to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital ER to be checked out as a precaution.”
With the assistance of Delaware County Child Protective Services, Morris has been placed in a safe environment.
The teen’s family is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
