11-year-old Alfie Aiello-Da Cruz was driving through Hampshire, England, with his family when their Nissan Qashqai crashed into the motorway barrier and rolled over.

According to the reports, dangerous road conditions including fog contributed to the accident, whereas the driver of the car – the boy’s father – lost control of his vehicle after a “late maneuver.”

When the compact crossover SUV overturned, Alfie was ejected from the back seat and sent flying out of the vehicle through the side window despite wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

A coroner has since confirmed that the boy likely died immediately after hitting his head.

“The Nissan Qashqai, driven by Mr Da Cruz, went along the mouth of the exit slipway and into the grass verge. The car was launched into the air after hitting the verge,” investigator PC Robert Giles said of the tragic crash.

“Alfie was partially ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.”

Addressing the inquest, Giles continued: “Fog was likely to distorted Mr Cruz’ distance perception. The fog was not sufficiently thick to obscure the road signs, but it is likely that it made the junction seem further away. No defects were identified in the vehicle.”

Meanwhile, the grieving family paid tribute to little Alfie and remembered him as a source of their joy and happiness.

“Our beloved Alfie. We were so lucky to have you in our lives, giving us brightness, joy, love and happiness. Now that you have been taken away from us so suddenly and at such a young age, just 11 years old, we are going to miss you forever,” they said in a statement.
