A six-year-old boy has passed away after falling into an icy lake while playing with his friends.
The 6-year-old boy in question has become the latest victim of the Solihull lake tragedy that cost four young children their lives on Sunday afternoon.
According to the reports, four boys were playing on the lake when the ice cracked and they fell into the freezing water. Three of the boys, aged 8, 10, and 11 died on the spot.
While the 6-year-old survived the accident and was rushed to the hospital, he now succumbed to the injuries he had suffered days ago.
Following the tragedy at Babbs Mill Park in Kingshurst, the community was left in shock, with hundreds of mourners rallying to pay the deceased children a tribute.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that we have to report this afternoon, the six-year-old in hospital has lost his fight for life. Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragedy,” West Midlands Police announced in a heartbreaking update.
“We cannot comprehend the enormity of the pain they must feel and our hearts go out to them.”
The statement added: “Specialist officers remain in contact with the family and we will issue further information as soon as we can. The searches have been completed and the scene of the incident at the lake will be lifted this evening.”
While the boys’ identities remain unclear as of this writing, it has since been confirmed that they will be identified in accordance with their families’ wishes.
The vigil for the young boys will be held at Babbs Mill Park this Saturday at 4 pm.
