A young boy has been arrested after the police found the body of a 10-year-old girl in a wooded area near her aunt’s home.
Lily Peters, 10, was reported missing at around 9 pm on Sunday after she failed to return home after leaving her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
According to the reports, the girl was last seen leaving her aunt’s home, which is located close to Lily’s family home, on Sunday evening.
After the 10-year-old failed to show up at her house, her worried father called the police and a massive search was launched.
Following hours of hard work and more than 200 tips, the child was found dead in a wooded area near Chippewa Falls.
While the family is awaiting the results of the autopsy, the police have arrested a male juvenile on suspicion of murder.
According to the authorities, the boy knew his alleged victim. Their relationship and the boy’s age, however, remain a mystery.
“While nothing will bring Lily Peters back or change what happened, we are very grateful to deliver this news to the family and the community,” Chippewa Falls Police Chief Matt Kelm said after arresting the boy.
Earlier, the police chief fought back tears as he was forced to announce the discovery of Peters’ body.
“As you can imagine, our first responders are tremendously impacted by anything that impacts one of our children, so it is very difficult for them, and the investigators,” he said.
Our thoughts are with Lily’s family and friends during these challenging times.
