The body of a missing elderly woman was found inside a large freezer in her home.
Police identified the woman as Marie Hoskins, 93, from Sebastian, Florida. After her body was found, her daughter Michelle Hoskins, 64, was taken in for questioning as she was also living on the property.
Sebastian Police Department said in a statement that Hoskins’ neighbors became concerned about her wellbeing when they hadn’t seen or heard from her in many days.
“The neighbors were concerned about not seeing Marie Hoskins for an extended period of time,” police said.
“Officers made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact anyone at the residence and were unable to obtain any information on the whereabouts of Mrs. Hoskins.”
Following a search of the home, Hoskins’ body was discovered inside a big freezer in the garage.
Michelle Hoskins, who told investigators that “she hadn’t seen her mother, Marie in some time,” was photographed being led away by cops.
Captain Timothy Wood told Sebastian Daily that the suspect was the 64-year-old daughter. In another interview with WPTV, he said police are investigating the case had an ‘odd feeling’ about the elderly woman’s disappearance.
It is not clear when Hoskins was last seen but a neighbor said to WPTV that he sometimes saw her checking her mailbox.
According to records, Hoskins bought the property in 2006 and lived there with George Vannoy, a professional musician.
Vannoy passed away at the age of 86 in March 2019.
Hoskins previously lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida. A neighbor’s Facebook page also said that she worked as a supervisor at the Kennedy Space Center during the space race of the 1960s.
“It’s sad and kind of shocking,” Richard Maloney said.
Investigators are working with the state attorney and medical examiner in the case.
