A body of a female worker was found inside an Arby’s walk-in freezer in Louisiana, police have said.
The remains of the employee were found by horrified co-workers at around 6 pm on Thursday.
Video shared online shows police vehicles and cops outside the restaurant in New Iberia as they investigate the ‘suspicious death’ of the staff member.
New Iberia Police Capt. Leland Laseter told local news networks: “So it was an employee that discovered the female deceased inside the cooler, (and) the deceased is an employee of the restaurant.”
While the death is suspicious, preliminary information revealed that foul play is not expected and that the death may have been an accident.
Speaking to KADN, Laseter said: “A situation like this is unusual, so we’re taking extra precautions during the investigation.
“(We) pretty much have completed our process at the crime scene. After completely processing the crime scene – this does not seem like a homicide, it seems like an accident.”
An investigation is underway to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.
“We’re going to re-examine all the evidence … and they’re going to conduct an autopsy to give us the cause and manner of death. So there are a few more steps that we need to take before a [final] determination is made,” Laseter added.
Sergeant Daesha Hughes also shared further details about the incident.
Speaking to The US Sun, Hughes said: “The New Iberia Police Department responded to the business of Arby’s located on East Admiral Doyle Drive at approximately 6:20 PM in reference to a body found inside of a freezer. The death is suspicious and being investigated.”
