The lifeless body of a 5-year-old boy who vanished while on a family trip over four months ago has finally been found.
Lucian Munguia and his family went on a trip to Sarg Hubbard park in September. But while his father, Juano Munguia, was changing the diaper of his youngest child, the five-year-old boy disappeared.
The father-of-three returned to where Lucian and his brother, 6, had been playing only a minute later but the younger boy, who was diagnosed with autism and is mostly non-verbal, was nowhere to be found.
His heartbroken family searched the areas in the days after he vanished, with Lucian’s mother, Sandra Munguia, offering a $10,000 reward for her son’s safe return.
But months after Lucian went missing, police confirmed that his body was found on December 29 and that the cause of death was accidental drowning.
Only days before Lucian’s death was announced, the Sandra said: “I wish you were here with us spreading joy like you would every day of our lives. Christmas isn’t so merry without you.”
In a statement shared online, the grieving family announced: “We regret to inform all of you that Lucian has been found but unfortunately, it was with tragic news.
“Our hearts are forever broken and we will never be the same. The family will be unavailable at this time and we will not be answering any questions.
“We thank you all for the support and love you gave to us and more importantly, to Lucian. We are forever grateful for the help you all were.”
Yakima Police also said: “Based on the results of the autopsy, there is no indication of criminal acts that led to Lucian’s death.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Lucian.”
