The FIFA President has slammed all reports that spoke about fake fans arising at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Gianni Infantino says that all such reports were nothing but biased and fake and they failed to address the main issue at hand which is a wave of racism that people are trying to spread during the leading sports event.
This particular controversy emerged after a number of shocking videos began emerging that featured leading Indian ex-pats that expressed their support for Gareth Southgate’s squad in the upcoming FIFA tournament.
There was a particular video that had fans engaging in a rendition of the David Baddiel and Lightning Seeds track called Three Lions too that has gone viral online.
But many commenters were quick to mention how the fans present here were actually paid actors and not real supporters.
Infantino mentioned how it was just beyond absurd to label fans as fake just because they didn’t look a certain way and hence were seen supporting a particular team.
“If a fan looks Indian and is rooting for the English team, that does not mean he’s a fake fan. He may not be from that same nation but he is definitely a loyal fan and deserves the respect like any other”- he explained.
The FIFA president was seen speaking ahead of the tournament’s opener between the host country of Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday.
Not only did Infantino call out the allegations as ridiculous but tragic too.
Qatar is being blasted left and right for the World Cup’s strict rules and regulations put into place as it is a Muslim nation that stated on day one that there would be zero tolerance for any behavior that went against the country’s customs and traditions.
