President Joe Biden tripped on the steps of Air Force One shortly after giving politicians a clear order that it is time to do something about crime and gun violence.
The 79-year-old spoke to reporters on Wednesday before he boarded the aircraft to fly to California.
“The voters sent a clear message last night,” the U.S. President said. “Both parties have to step up and do something about crime as well as gun violence.”
Biden also said that cities and states must reform police departments and employ more officers.
“The first major bill we passed … we gave the states and localities billions of dollars, billions of dollars and then encouraged them to use it to hire police officers and reform the police department,” he said.
“Very few have done it.”
Biden also said that he sent a request to Congress for $300 million budget to hire and train more officers.
One person commented: “Strange as it may sound, this is quite normal, as WH officials watch Biden stumbling a few times every day.”
Another said: “Pretty soon they’ll be changing the Air Force One’s steps to an escalator.”
This comes as the country considers again how to prevent mass shootings after 19 students and two teachers were killed at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
In April, a University of Berkeley poll found that crime and lawlessness were voters’ number one concern in California.
This meant that San Francisco’s DA Chesa Boudin was ousted as he was accused of being soft on crime.
In a defiant speech to his supporters, Boudin said: “The right-wing billionaires outspent us three to one.”
The 41-year-old also asserted that people had been ‘exploited’ by these groups, adding they “took advantage an environment in which people are appropriately upset.
“They created an electoral dynamic where we were literally shadowboxing.”
