Famed WNBA star Brittney Griner has pleaded guilty to shocking drug charges in Russia.
According to local media outlets, the news comes just one day after the player’s wife had called upon US President Joe Biden to bring Griner back home but it appears that won’t be the case anymore.
The President had appeared on live television to reassure Brittney’s wife after she blatantly attacked the government for not playing an integral role in bringing her back home.
The player has been sentenced to ten years in jail in Russia which many believe to be a hellhole.
Griner was accused of drugs in February of this year and was forced to undergo a trial related to that. But little did anyone know that she would be pleading guilty and sentenced to ten-year-long imprisonment.
Shockingly, the basketball star was seen boldly revealed to the court of law: “I’d like to plead guilty your honor. But there was no intent. I did not wish to break the law”- she explained.
In the same way, Brittney was seen declaring how she needed more time to prepare for this final verdict.
Russian prosecutors are believed to have accused the star player of the crime when they reportedly found 0.7 grams of cannabis oil inside her luggage when she landed in Russia.
She was believed to have arrived to be a part of the Russian team and play on their behalf in the country. But things took a downward turn when this incident took place.
Meanwhile, the celeb’s coach is believed to have been seen mentioning how Russia’s legal system works in a very unique manner where the conviction rate is 99%.
Hence, seeing the star basketball member plead guilty wasn’t a surprise for him. He also continued to add how their legal practices were the opposite witnessed in the US.
