A beautiful baby girl is currently undergoing brain surgery after being shot in the face in New York’s Bronx district.
According to local media outlets, Catherine Ortiz just turned one on Friday but she is being forced to battle for her life after suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.
The young girl was reportedly shot in her left cheek while seated next to her mother in a car on Wednesday.
The horrifying incident took place in a Bronx district called Fordham Manor, as stated by officials.
A young male suspect is believed to have come in close proximity to the vehicle as he began to fire shots at another male at about 6:45. Tragically, one of the bullets went right through the baby’s head, while her 32-year-old mother remained uninjured in the incident.
Little Catherine was immediately rushed to the St. Barnabas hospital while being critically injured but stable, as revealed by authorities.
But soon after that, the baby was quickly shifted to another hospital upon doctors’ recommendations as she needed more in-depth medical attention, including life-saving brain surgery.
Catherine’s mother Miraida Gomez says that it was an absolute nightmare come true for her, after seeing her baby in such a terrifying state of injury and pain.
While the baby is expected to survive, her baby hopes and prays her brain surgery goes well.
According to the latest reports of statistics from the Bronx area, the first two weeks of this month have been badly struck with countless shootings and violence-related crimes, where more than 57 people have reportedly been injured. This is stated to be more than a 15% rise in crime when compared to statistics recorded from last year.
