A baby boy died alone on Christmas after his mother took her own life.
Recalling the tragic loss that she will “never get over,” 35-year-old Stacey Hackett of Cumbria, England, revealed that her best friend, 27-year-old Natalie, took her own life on Christmas Eve, leaving her 1-year-old son Harry with no one to look after him.
According to Stacey, she was babysitting Harry on Christmas Eve while her friend, who suffered from addiction, got her nails done at a local salon.
Later that day the two friends parted with the agreement that they would see each other on the following day to spend the holidays together.
Shortly after Stacey left her friend’s home in Whitehaven, Natalie ended her life. Days later, the mother-of-one was found dead at her home alongside baby Harry who succumbed to dehydration in the days after his mother’s passing.
“She had really turned her life around since having Harry, and she was so looking forward to her first proper Christmas with him. I will never get over losing them both,” Stacey expressed.
Stacey also revealed she didn’t worry when her friend didn’t show up on Christmas Day because she thought she simply wanted to have some time alone with her son before meeting with her friend again.
“I felt sure I’d hear from her in a day or two when she was ready,” the 35-year-old added.
Days later, on December 29, Stacey got worried after not hearing from her friend. She eventually called the police and asked them to visit the mother’s home to check up on her.
As the police arrived at the location, they found Natalie lying dead next to a pile of unopened Christmas gifts in her living room. Harry’s body was later discovered in the bathroom.
“I was heartbroken. The shock will live with me forever. I could never have dreamed that she was dead,” Stacey added.
“I didn’t know that Natalie was struggling and if I had, I’d have taken her absence over Christmas more seriously.
“I think she kept it from me because she didn’t want to be judged, as a mother or a friend.”
