A baby girl tragically died at home after getting involved in a freak accident involving common household objects.
14-month-old Mia Macphee from Scotland was playing at her home in Alness when she suddenly got herself tangled in the straps of a bag that was left hanging from the door.
According to the girl’s grieving parents, they rushed to see what was wrong with their daughter after she had gone silent for just a minute.
In the room, dad Connor found his daughter tangled in the straps of a rucksack-style handbag. The girl was unresponsive, prompting Connor to call his wife, Hannah, for help.
After the mother burst into the room, she attempted to resuscitate her daughter using CPR while her partner called the emergency services.
While the baby was revived after being left with no oxygen for almost 45 minutes, she tragically passed away at the hospital four days later.
“Connor and I lay in bed with her. I had my hand on her chest and could feel her slipping away. Her heart stopped beating,” Hannah said in an interview with Press and Journal.
“We fell asleep with her between us. That was the last proper time we had with our little girl.”
The heartbroken mom added: “Mia was bubbly, sassy, and every inch a daddy’s girl. We could never have foreseen losing her. We thought we had years. We’re paying tribute to her because she was amazing – but also so this doesn’t happen to any other family.
“We can’t stress this enough to anyone reading this: we didn’t even give a bag hanging on a door a second thought. But everyday things like that need to be thought about.”
Our thoughts remain with Mia’s loved ones during this challenging time.
