A baby girl died tragically after getting left in a hot car for eight hours while her grandmother worked.
14-month-old Chyasia Evans from New York died in the backseat of her grandmother’s car after the woman “forgot” to drop her off at daycare.
According to the reports, the toddler’s body temperature reached 106 degrees after she was left trapped in the backseat of a Jeep Cherokee that was parked in Smithtown, Long Island.
It was also revealed that Chyasia’s grandmother was responsible for looking after the child at the time and that she went to work without realizing that her granddaughter was still sitting in the back of her car.
It wasn’t until the unnamed 54-year-old grandmother finished her work and returned to her car that she realized her mistake and called for help.
Unfortunately, it was already too late for baby Chyasia who was pronounced dead at Siena Medical Center.
Since the tragic incident, the toddler’s loved ones – including her mom Jessica Watkins – gathered at a candlelit vigil to pay their respects and say their goodbyes.
“I know you’re going to be my guardian angel, and I love you til we meet again baby. I am so defeated. I don’t know what to do,” the baby girl’s grieving mom said.
Watkins also recalled the final moment she had spent with her daughter on Monday saying she told her she loved her and called her a princess.
As of this writing, the toddler’s death remains under investigation. No charges have yet been filed against Chyasia’s grandmother.
